If you are reading this document I have to assume that you know something about DotNetNuke, or at least you want to know something about it; and that you would like to know if it works or not. Well first lets discuss where it has come from. The genisis of DotNetNuke is the IBuySpy portal that Microsoft included with Visual Studio. It has grown from there with a group of developers (core developers) building onto the version and creating an Open Source environment for web sites. It is currently in version 3.0 and actually has grown up quite a bit.
The concept of DotNetNuke is to allow people to build websites without having to actually code them. It can host any number of websites or child sites within one installation and is very dependent on the database that it is tied to for storing the configuration of the site and the pages.
There is a wide range of programmers creating modules for DotNetNuke that range from the mundane to the very elligant and this environment is starting to mature with the third release of the product.
The site that you are looking at is currently hosted in DotNetNuke. We are hosting it with webhost4life who has DotNetNuke as one of their offerings when you host with them. It is very important to look at the hosting environment as well as the product and DotNetNuke with webhost4life work well together. (By clicking on the links you will be taken to them to setup your hosting with my reference ID.)
Bottom line is that the product works very well. You are able to set the product up very easily and then developed websites out of the box. You can extend the environment by installing modules (either that you create yourself or that you purchase off of the web).
I am not sure how it would work in a large enterprise and am working to see the issues around high availability and clustering, but, at this point in time for the small to medium size webstie, from simple to safisticated DotNetNuke can supply them all.
Check out DotNetNuke for your next web development. If you want we can host your stie in our DotNetNuke environment or we can help you configure your own with webhost4life (or anyone else). Remember, just having the ability to host your site is a small part of the battle, you then have to create a good representation of your organization on the web, we can hel you with that also.
Would I sugguest DotNetNuke, yes I would. Again I am not sure about the clustered environment, but most people do not live in this environment. Check it out! |
